Kwik Sew Peplum

I finished this the other day. It is Kwik Sew 4112 – a double peplum top. The pattern sizes for this run from XS to XL. I made this in medium. I combined View B which has the neck I want with View A, which is just a regular sleeveless top. I didn’t want to add the sleeve flange which is part of View B. I also added piping around the waist seam just to break up the pattern of the fabric a bit.

I always like the things with princess seams since it’s a more flattering fit for me. This is a pretty simple top to make. It took me longer to get the piping in the way I wanted than anything else, so next time, I’ll probably just leave that out.

Even though the fabric stores around here are getting in their Fall material now, I still have more summer sewing I want to get done! After all, it’s only the second full day of summer here in the mid-Atlantic region, so we have a lot of very hot, very humid weather to get through.

Happy sewing everyone!

McCall’s 6559 Maxi Dress Completed

This is the first time that I’ve made a maxi dress. I see them (everywhere) and I like them, but I never bothered to make one myself – until now. This pattern is so easy! It only took a few hours to make. And I actually lined mine with tricot so it would hang better and not be clingy.

I also made the shorter jacket (View A) from a piece of cotton interlock knit I had on hand.

Since the dress is sleeveless, having something to keep warm indoors when the A/C is too high is crucial.

This is very easy to make and great to wear day or night. It’s something I can see myself making again, although I don’t think I would line the next one if it’s not really necessary. I think the lining has made the dress heavier than it would be otherwise. But, the lining has made the dress hang well, which I really like.

Burda Style Magazine Polo Dress

I made this a couple of weeks ago and am just getting around to blogging about it. It’s from BurdaStyle magazine 04/2010 #113C and D. These are polo-style dresses that are great for warm spring and hot summer days.

These are some of my favorite things I’ve made from the magazine. I made the yellow striped dress first, then found instructions online to improve on the placket, so I made the blue dress the next day.
The blue is my personal favorite. I think the length is perfect for me. The pattern is designed for making a polo shirt with long or short sleeves, and the dresses in two lengths.

Once I figured out how to make the placket better, this was very easy to make.

Both are made from cotton knits. I can definitely see myself making the shirt or some other variation of the dress in the future!
