Reading about sewing…

The other day I was reading an article in the August/September Threads magazine. I was particularly interested in the article on determining your figure type ( http://www.threadsmagazine.com/item/26235/get-the-ideal-silhouette-self-evaluation-worksheet).Thwas This was easy for me to determine for myself because I have always been a “column” (I say rectangle). Pretty much straight up and down. I guess that’s why I tend to gravitate to dresses with princess seams, because they tend to give some waist definition – something I’ve always wanted. But, I’m 50 years old and things could be worse – LOL!. I’m trying harder this year to see myself as I am and deal with what I have, rather than to think of myself as I wish I was. Regardless, the article is very good and worth checking out. I need to figure out what style separates are best for me (especially skirts). I know what I like (A-line) and that’s usually what I make for myself.

Anyway, I’m finishing up a project now that I hope to have completed sometime this week.

Trying to decide…

I’m writing this as I try to decide on my next project. I did just complete a very simple dress (New Look 6602). Although, this did take a little longer than anticipated since the fabric was thinner than I thought, so I had to line the dress. But I want to do something different. I’m just not sure what. I have so many patterns and so much material that I just need to go for it! Pick something and get started! I’m still determined to work my way through a lot of the fabric stash I have. But sometimes I look at a piece of material and try to think of the “perfect” or best use for it. As a result, it sits. I’m sure I’m not the only person that has dealt with this. Anyway, here’s a picture of my completed project.

Quick project…

I completed a quick project recently while I’m working on completing a dress I’m making. This skirt used to be a maxi dress that I never wore and really didn’t like. But, I liked the material. So I got the scissors and cut off the top part and, cut out the elastic, and remade the casing from the top. I didn’t do anything to the bottom of the skirt since it was already hemmed. Very simple.

I hope to have the dress I’m making completed soon. I took a break the other day and never got back to sewing. Then I’ll have to plan some other pieces (tops).

Have a great weekend everyone!
