I finished the dress I’ve been working on. While I was hoping to finish sooner, I’ve been quite busy with other things. The dress turned out fairly well. I based the size on the information in the instructions, so it’s a 14 for C cup (there are different sizes for A/B, C, and D cups). The fit is good although I was skeptical at first (I usually make a 16). The material is a washable wool blend I bought at JoAnn’s. The only thing I did have trouble with was trying to match the seams in the back. It wouldn’t have been a problem if I had used a regular zipper, but I used an invisible zipper. Since the insertion techniques are different for the two types of zippers, I wasn’t able to get those seams to come together evenly at the waist(I’m determined to figure out how to make it work). But anyway, every garment is an improvement over a previous garment, so “practice makes perfect” (or more practice makes you better). Happy sewing!

(Finally) finished the blouse
After some on again, off again sewing (life gets in the way sometimes), I finished the blouse I’ve been working on. It’s McCall’s 2094. I’ve made this before in sleeveless and short-sleeve, but this is the first time making a long-sleeve version. The material is a black & white checked cotton shirting fabric I bought from G Street Fabrics at least a year ago. The buttons I had on hand in my button stash as well, so I glad to be able to use some things I already had. The blouse is simple and basic, but just what I needed. I made this in size 16.
Completed Burda skirt
This was my last project of 2010 – the BurdaStyle skirt from 9-2010, #106B. It’s referred to as the knee-length “mum” skirt. I really like this. It was easy to sew and I think it can be made in a variety of materials. I made size 42, but it was surprisingly about 2″ too big, so I made adjustments. I based the size on what the chart says in the magazine for my waist measurement. I did make a muslin first. The material I used is a small-wale corduroy; it almost looks and feels like suede. And for once, I did not have trouble inserting the invisible zipper! There is something to be said for taking one’s time and sewing slowly (not to mention being fully awake). The only thing I couldn’t get to work out quite right was the yoke attachment where the two seams aren’t quite even. But, the waist and the hem were even, so one thing improved while another still needs work. Anyway, the only thing the look needs are some knee-high boots, which I don’t have. I’m really lacking in the shoe category, but enough about that.
Now it’s time to plan on what to sew for this new year.
