A little something else…

I saw this tutorial a while back, but didn’t get around to sewing it until the other day (snow day sewing). Anyway, there is this great tutorial for making these little pencil pouches. They could also be used for makeup brushes or whatever you like. You could also make different sizes depending on what you want. And they could be great gifts. Anyway, here is the link to the pencil pouch.

Here is the one I made.

Happy sewing everyone!

McCall’s 5252 – DONE!

This is a situation where I purchased the fabric without a clear idea of what I wanted to do with it. Well, that was probably about 5 years ago. Then about 2 years ago, when I decided I would make this top, I got everything prepped and ready to go. But, then it went nowhere. So I finally decided to go ahead and get it done. Of course, it only took a few hours of actual sewing time to put this together.

Anyway, it’s warm, comfortable, and it fits well. I did shorten it quite a bit. I think the top would have been too long otherwise. It is made from fleece, so it’s very soft. It’s pretty straight-forward. I would definitely make something like this again. The pattern has lots of variations, so for me, this is a pattern worth having.

And since I joined the RTW (ready-to-wear) fast, I feel good and motivated that I’ve gotten another project done!

First project of the year – DONE!

I just completed Vogue 8933. I made view A which is the short jacket. The pattern calls for contrast sleeves, but I used only one fabric for the jacket. I really like the style of this jacket and I find the length to be perfect when I have to drive while wearing it (I don’t care for long coats particularly in the car). I did change how the collar functions. what I mean by that is the pattern calls for hooks and eyes to close the collar around the neck. I actually did sew them on. Then, after I tried on the coat, I didn’t like how it looked, so I removed them. Now what I do is wrap the collar piece around my neck and snap the coat closed (that’s how it’s shown in the pictured). I like this look and feel much better.

Here is a close up of the fabric. It’s a wool herringbone that I bought at JoAnn’s. This jacket is quite warm!

Now, on to the next project!
