2018 Wrap-Up And What’s Next

As 2018 comes to a close, it’s a good time to look back on what I accomplished and what I want to do more of in the coming year.

One of the biggest things for me was the addition of video. Really getting some things onto my YouTube channel has been a goal of mine for about a year, so I’m glad I finally started. Now the goal is to continue to improve the video quality and content while maintaining my sense of self in each video. I really want to add some tutorials or instructional videos as well (simple projects at first).

As far as some of my favorite completed projects this year, I have to say that this is one of them:

Angela Wolf Ruched T

It just has some of my favorite colors and is really comfortable to wear. I wrote about this here.

The item that gets the most wear is this robe.

But there were many favorites and completed projects this year. As a member of the Ready-To-Wear Fast sponsored by Sarah of Goodbye Valentino, I bought no clothing in 2018. Sewing that many projects gives me more of a perspective on what I’ll make in the future versus what I would rather buy. But, I also like to keep my options open, so I’m glad the year is coming to an end on the RTW fast! I’m a person who rarely shops anyway, so I don’t need to be part of a group to keep sewing (although seeing the projects of others in the group is always inspiring).

As for 2019, my goal is, as always, to keep improving my sewing skills while I learn new skills.

I wish you all a happy and healthy new year. I thank you for being on this journey with me and I hope that we can continue to encourage each other in the coming year!

Top 2 – Spring Floral

While I didn’t complete as many tops in April as I wanted, I’m happy with what I’ve done so far. The latest one is New Look 6598. I’ve made this one before here about 4 years ago. This is View D which is the collarless option. I also made this one using a FBA (full bust adjustment). I like how it turned out. It gives me the room I need so I’m not constrained when I’m trying to move.

The material is from JoAnn’s and I’ve had that for 2 or 3 years. As I go through this process of building my wardrobe, I’m also trying to use any fabric I have that is appropriate for the project. This is a light cotton (washes well) that I think was from the Gertie fabric collection.

I like the tie in the back of the blouse that helps to give it some shape and is a small detail that you don’t see coming at first.

I’ve still got at least one more top to make in this “wardrobe staple tops edition” series. It’s fun to create those things that you like and that you’ll wear – whatever your style is! I encourage you to do a little wardrobe planning and sewing of your own.

That’s all for now…

A Terrific Basic: T-Shirt Edition

As a member of the 2018 Ready To Wear fast, there are things I know that I will need or want to replace that make my heart beat a little bit faster. It’s never something like making a coat (I did that during my first RTW fast here ) but it’s those things I wear everyday that I want a pattern I can just cut and sew. Those are the basics for me that will get the most use. So, lately I’ve been focusing on T-shirts and one of my favorite patterns is the Itch to Stitch Idyllwild T shirt and dress. There are so many variations with this pattern that it can be used over and over again.

This one in red is a ruched T I made without the ruching. It’s a longer top but the ruching would make it shorter.

The next two are the same T-shirts but in the T-shirt length which a few inches shorter than the red.

This is a pattern I definitely recommend if you’re looking for a T-shirt pattern with several different options for neckline, sleeve and length.
