January Jacket Vogue 8758

I started this project about a week ago with the muslin I made.

I chose this pattern because I thought it had interesting lines and details, but wouldn’t be a difficult project to make. I believe the pattern is out of print, but this is one of Vogues wardrobe patterns.

I did make the dress here a couple of years ago. As far as the muslin is concerned, here’s a tip that might help someone: I always like to use different color thread for the top and bobbin. It just helps me to see if there was some problem I had during the construction that I might want to keep in mind when I make the garment. It also helps me use up any unusual-colored thread I might have purchased for a particular project that I’ll probably never need again.

But here is the jacket so far…

That’s ll for now. I hope to show you the finished garment soon!

2015 Wrap-up and 2016 Plans

Below are some of my favorite pieces that I made last year.

These are the items I find myself wearing most often and what I’m most satisfied with. 2015 was quite a journey. I did the RTW (ready-to-wear) fast again for the second year in a row! I’m definitely not doing it again, although I still haven’t bought any clothing.

For 2016 there is the ongoing goal to continue to challenge myself and grow. As far as particular items I want to make this year or particular goals:

  • an LDB is certainly on the list,
  • buy fewer patterns and use the ones I have (especially the ones I bought and never tried)
  • continue to sew through my fabric stash, although I’ve noticed I have a LOT of prints and not many solids, so I will keep this in mind when purchasing
  • I also want to keep track of yardage sewn this year. I’ve never done this before, but I think it’ll be an interesting tidbit to note at the end of the year

So, what are some of your sewing goals? Do you set goals or just wing-it and make whatever you feel like making? Honestly, I do both.

Next time I’ll show you what I’m currently working on… Until then,

Happy New Year!  And happy sewing!

Casual Living – McCall’s 7195 Sweatshirt

I made this McCall’s woven sweatshirt last week. Although, I actually used a knit that doesn’t have a lot of stretch. In all honesty, I found some material that I really liked so I was anxious to try it for this top.

This is a picture of View C which is the one I made. There are variations for the sleeves and hem line.

I used a textured knit for the shirt which made it more interesting without making it more difficult.

I made this in large, although the next time I would make it closer to medium. I really need to pay more attention to the finished measurements on the envelope, rather than going by my measurements. It’s a bit more full than necessary or what I would normally like. I think that might not be as much of an issue using a woven material. But, It is comfortable and very easy to make. Next time I will use the suggested types of fabrics (like you’re supposed to do – ha ha).

All in all, I do like the pattern. I like that there are sleeve options and hemline options so you can get a different look depending on what you choose to do. This only took a few hours to put together, so it’s a quick and easy project.

Until next time…
